Techniques Behind Modern Web

In search to make my blog more popular via link exchange services, I’ve found BlogRush and registered for the service.
BlogRush states itself as a “Cooperative Syndication Network” — a network of blogs that run a small “widget” on their pages. Each time this widget is loaded it will contain 5 clickable headlines which are the blog post titles to other users’ posts. Clicking on any of these links will open a new browser window and load the blog and full post.
BlogRush is completely free but requires each blog to meet certain quality guidelines. Every new blog is manually reviewed by a content specialist; this helps BlogRush maintain a high level of quality and stops spammers and others from trying to abuse the network.
Like Spottt, users earn “credits” based on each time their blog loads the widget and each time any of their referrals (users that signup after clicking the “add your blog posts” link on the widget) loads the widget. More intelligently, they also earn additional credit based on all the activity through 10 generations of referrals.

You are required to add title, feed URL of your blog and select a category in which BlogRush will syndicate headlines among blogs. (I choose “Internet Startups & Web 2.0 Companies” category - not exactly the main focus of my blog but I find many interesting news in this channel.) Then, the service generates a script to display BlogRush’s widget and asks you to integrate it into your blog for verification. FYI, you may have to press verification button a few times until it verifies that the script has been added. Now, just wait for approval in about 12 to 48 hours and if your blog is approved you’ll see headlines appear on the widget.
Of course, you can login to management panel to view credits earned, traffic to your blog or change widget settings (get insight of BlogRush’s system from this video clip).

On the other hand, you may want to check out TrafficJam.com, a nice idea by John Reese, which shows the most visited posts on the Blog Rush network so it gives you a running count of what content, across a wide variety of topics, is popular. I like its objective:
TrafficJam.com was designed to give exposure to great blog posts regardless of the size (or current traffic level) of the blog. Some of the best blogs in the world are currently undiscovered and don’t have large advertising budgets to drive traffic — so many of them will never be found.

Please note that number 1 is the most popular headline and there is no voting system like Digg. Watch this video to learn more about TrafficJam.

If you are going to start a business, you may have some ideas of your biz name and logo. I have no advice for the name because it is your business, no?
But you can try to create a logo by yourself with two cool online tools: one is completely free and the other costs around 100 bucks for true professional service.
This is an extremely easy-to-use tool. You’ll… Read more »

As you may notice, I’ve created a mobile version of this blog using service from WireNode.com. I’m very impressive with the simplicity of the service – it took me only about 5 minutes to do everything. Now you can read JustTalkAboutWeb DOT com from any mobile phone (optimized for iPhone too) via the link:

To get more info about WireNode, I sent an e-mail for company’s history and Tomas Zeman, WireNode’s innovator,… Read more »

A few days ago I wrote about how to use Spottt and adGridWork for free advertising. Here is the latest update on performance of these networks.
It’s really interesting to see a variety of ad banners appearing on my blog, some are very creative and appealing. Spottt exposed the best performed ad after 2 days was for pud.com, simply with a squirrel (see picture below). It gained… Read more »

I’ve joined two ad exchange programs served by Spottt and adGridWork because I like the idea of letting the blog adverts by itself rather than via paid reviews or Adwords campaigns.
I got Spottt’s service via a post by Mike Arrington of TechCrunch. The service is part of the Adbrite advertising network, but is being run as a separate brand.
Despite not-so-good reputation of Read more »

Webnode.com is a newly-launched (web 2.0) service by a Czech startup which gained $1.2 M investment recently. WebNode’s service competes with what of well-known Google Page Creator and a number of other online website builders like Weebly, Jimdo, Synthasite, Sampa and RealEditor. After playing with it for a while, I know why WebNode has confidence to join so crowded market.
