The benefit of keeping eye on sites about online marketing is sometimes you can find out an ad system that suites your better than others like the case of MediaText ads integrated into JTAW blog currently. Previously, I’d once used the same solution provided by Kontera in this blog but I removed it here for several reasons especially due to colors of ad pop-up (though I’m still using Kontera ads in other sites).

MediaText Ad Solution

The MediaText in-text ads attracted me initially because the color theme of ad pop-upĀ  window perfectly matches with my blog theme (see image below). Secondly, it shows image along with product description, link which I find more informative than other in-text ads.

Then I discovered that MediaText supports more than one way to get addition revenue:

  1. PPC In-Text Ads: You are paid when visitor clicks (pay-per-click) on ad pop-up to get to target page (not new way, I reckon.)
  2. From Referrals: You can earn extra money by referring the service to other advertisers/publishers (not new way either but other ad vendors may require you to reach a certain traffic level or/and to display for a few months.)
  3. Text Link Ads: You can insert one ad links (provided by VISIONMEDIA which also displays a pop-up like the in-text ads) to any portion of your site as picture below.

Integrating ads into your blog/website can be done simply by adding some scripts into theme page (right after <body> tag for in-text ad scripts and anywhere for text-link ads and referrals.)

MediaText allows you to customize how the in-text ads appear in the page in many aspects:

  • Link color, hovered link color, link font weight/style (normal/bold/italic)
  • Underline style (double, single or dashed). Really cool feature! I choose dashed underline link for the ads to avoid confusion with normal links but less annoying than double underline.
  • Maximum number of ads appears on one page
  • Allow or disallow repeat keyword on page
  • Allow or disallow repeat advertiser on page

Only thing I wish they could do was to offer customizable color theme for the pop-up ad so that the ads could go with different blog themes naturally.

Conversion Rate and Payment

As I’ve run MediaText ads for a few days, I can say I’m quite happy with both CTR and revenues which are considerably higher than other ad systems although only visitors from certain countries can see the ads — thanks to attractive product image displayed along good feature description in the ads.

The company offers many payment methods like check, PayPal, bank wire, ePassporte and Stormpay with minimum payout level of just $25 US (except payment via bank wire which requires $250 minimum payout) - it’s really great news for small publishers like me.

I wish I knew about this ad system any time sooner!

MediaText Ad-Warp WordPress Plugin

To control where the ad links can be appeared in website, you can either insert code for inclusion or exclusion.

It’s a bit different from Kontera’s ad-warp tags that you can define only one region to display ad in a page by wrapping it in a DIV with id of “textmedia”.

I’ve modified the Kontera Ad-Warp Plugin I created a few months ago to support MediaText’s ads. Just upload it to blog’s plugin directory, active it then go to “Settings –> MediaText Ad Warp” for options. Basically, you can wrap blog content for ads and exclude comment texts if you like:

Please note that the ad-warp is for single post page only for it’s not really sensible for home and other pages. This plugin works with WordPress the latest version (2.5.1 at the moment.)
