David Sarno of The Los Angeles Times tells an embarrassing experience when he sent an image of two half-dressed women kissing while perched atop a pair of beer kegs — to seventy-six of his friends with caption read: “COLLEGE: The only place where . . . like this happens!” via one of most popular Facebook apps, Super Wall.

On the other hand, The New York Times has a funny article on the secret of Facebook’s success.

So far, though, the applications fall mainly into two categories: the silly and the annoying (and sometimes, both). Users can throw virtual sheep at each other or take part in zombie attacks on their friends. Recently, many users received a message entreating them to “click ‘forward’ to see what happens.” After clicking, users discovered that nothing happened except that they had annoyed their friends with a pointless message.

Kara Swisher, blogger for All Things Digital, supposes many Facebook applications are “for toddlers”. The “kazillion users of these widgets are pretty much just acting like little children,” she wrote in October.

If you ever use Facebook, you would find most of applications you are invited to join are useless, even worse not funny at all. With luck, it may not be a type of social worm but don’t expect all of over 14.000 applications there are gold.

What was the last application you added? (FYI, mine was WhiteSmoke, an application that helps to check spelling, enrich messages sent to friends — not too useless anyway ;) ).
